The Legacy of the 1641 Rebellion – Extension Activity

Here students are asked to contrast the speeches Mary McAleese and Lord Bannside with the depositions of Robert Maxwell and Henry Jones. These depositions are slightly longer than normal depositions and cast light on the intentions of the rebels and the course of the 1641 rebellion. Students are challenged with corroborating the accounts given by Mary McAleese and Lord Bannside and must decide on the accuracy of the speakers’ interpretation of the evidence. Each group must present their findings to the class.

Classroom set up: designed for an 80 minute class (or more), group work, no ICT needed for teacher or students.
