Morgan Conraghie of Loghteoghe in the parish of Disart and parrish Clark of Timoge and Irish protestant) (recomended and approved by Mr John Birkett preacher, & Mr Ithell Walker Mr Goodman Walker and sundrie other zealous protestants, nowe warder at Cullenaghe sworne and examined sayth That he hath beene robbed and dispoyled by meanes of the present Rebellion of Cowes & other goods worth thirtie twoe pownds sheepe worth iiij li. tyme of his first robbing) Hee (falling into discourse) perswaded this deponent to turne to Masse Saying why shold he stand vpon such a filthy Religion as the protestants was, and would have perswaded his wiffe to turne to Masse, and to enter into an oath not to lye with her husband vntill he were reconcyled to the Romane Church: And saith that one of the warders of Garrett fitzGarretts howse called William Mahan cottier of Timoge aforesaid said That at the time of the takeinge of this deponents cattle hee tooke one of this deponents cheeffe cowes cowes and kept and kept the same for some six weekes, which this deponent by strong hands & armes gott afterwards from him, And he he saw the said Mahan pursueing of certeine English protestants and a minister passing throughe Timoge, & robbed them and tooke the bible of the minister which this deponent againe beggd for them (they makeing noe accompt of it) And further sayth that one Cahell McKnogher Subsherriff [
tould him That he must goe to Masse and all must be of one Religion and if he refused then he must be pistolld & shott And further sayth that William Dullan Smith and knogher Dullan yeoman both tennants to ffrancis Cosby of Stradbally forceibly tooke away from him this deponente his provition and victualls being assisted with Hugh McDavie and Mortaghe McDavie of the same Labourere and Donnoghe Rochford souldjer And further saith That the said Garrett ffitzgarret kept a Smyth in his howse to make weapons to serve dempsie of the knockardegurrrahe And the said ffitzgarretts wife releeved her brethren by name of the Butlers at the seige of Ballelenan by her owne confession: And this deponent further sayth That Anthony Gay and other English that betooke themselves and goodes to the said Garrett ffitzgarretts howse, were pillaged and robbed & the people taken prisoners by the army of the Rebells but the goodes of the said ffitzgarrett were not touched And that all the parrish of Timoge that are Irish are in Rebellion and made great spoile, and are the tennants of ffrancis Cosby of Stradbally And that all the
