The examination of William o murhie of Ballilaghnan in the County of Dublin taken before vs Sir Sa: Mayart knight & Hugh Cressy esquire &c this 6 of No:
1641.
<O> Who saith that he alwayes liued at Ballilaghan aforesaid vntil he went as a soldier into the North of Ireland vnder the command of the liuetenant Coronel to [ ] Coronel Butler but his name he remembreth not & that after the armye was disbanded he came & made hay with Doctor Coke & after <was> reapeing of Corne at Luttrelstone, after which he was with Mathew Allen <at [ ] Palmerston> as a soldier to goe into Spayne vnder the command of his sonne about three wekes where ther was about a 100 soldiers which the said Mathew shold haue sent into Spayne to his said sonne, but because they cold not get leaue to goe they al went away, & this examinant amongst the rest went about a fortnight agoe to the mountayne foote by Dublin & liued amongst his ffrends til on munday last he came to towne to Dublin heareing ther were soldiers to goe to the North & toke that day presse mony of Captayne Birone & the day after beinge tuseday Talbot of Templeoge to ke apprehended him vpon the greene of dublin & <P> his musket & sworde was taken from him by his leiutenant for that the said Talbot said he wold prosecute against him & the cause why he wold prosecute him was that this examinant comminge through Dundrum 3 miles from dublin on Sunday night last & knockinge at a farmers dore to get lodginge he was denyed entrance whervpon he told them that he had a letter from Brian mc ffelim Birne to deliuer in Dublin & thought that he shold the rather be let in for that cause & therevpon but that they wold not let him in & there lay with him 2 of the Lord of Merions footemen or heardes who lay ther that night & that he was then bidden a hundred welcomes but he saith he had no such letter nor any letter from any other. & the next day being come to Dublin & haueing taken armes as aforesaid he was by the said Talbot on tuseday apprehended as abouesaid & that he had no other cause of coming to Dublin but to serue as a soldier & that no body bad him or aduised him to come & that he knoweth none in the North parts of Ireland nor had any mony or other thinge giuen him to come to Dublin & that he had no weapons coming to Dublin but a litle stick
