The examination of Thomas Ling of Tulloe in the County of Catherlagh aged aged thirty yeares of thereabouts the xiijth day of March 1653 before Thomas Dongan esquire one of the members of the high Court of Justice
Who beeing duely sworne and examined deposeth and saith That on the xviijth of September 1650 the examinant beeing then in the guarrison of Catherlagh <A> the examinants brother Patricke Ling then a soldier in the said guarrison vnder the comand of Captain Sandford together with Captain John Chambers and Peter Moore members of the English Army went out of the said guarrison in the evening of the day aforesaid towards Ballalarsen they beeing informed by guided thither by Garrett Wale of Clonmulske in the said County of Catherlagh hopeing to surprize some horse and men of the Rebells which they were informed lay at Ballalarsen aforesaid beeing about within three miles from of the said Guarrison,
The examinant further saith that about the xxth of September 1650 the aforesaid Peter Moore declared to the examinant that after that hee said the said Peter More and the said Captain John Chambers and the said Patrick Ling went out of Catherlagh as aforesaid they repayred to Ballalarsen as aforesaid and there surprised two or three of the [

Rebells and theire horses that night, but the said Rebells made an escape, and the said Captain John Chambers <B> Peter Moore and Patricke Ling comeing from Ballalarsen aforesaid earlely the next morning towards Catherlagh with the said Rebells horses were intercepted within a myle of Catherlagh by a party of the Rebells namely Cornett Richard Reade since deceased Edmund Bolger now liueing at Kellistowne in the said County of Catherlagh and one who is called Patrick mc Richard Daniell now gone for spai ne and seuerall others whose names the said Peter Moore could not then declare to the examinant, and after a skermish with the sa id Rebells the said Capten Chambers, Peter Moore and Patricke Ling submitted and gaue vpp theire armes vppon quarter giuen them by the said Cornett Richard <C> Reade which quarter was allsoe agreed and consented to by the rest of the said Rebells then comanded by the said Reade as the said Peter Moore toul declared to the examinant
The examinant further saith that the said Peter Moore tould the examinant that after quarter giuen as aforesaid the said Capten John Chambers and the said Peter Moore and the said Patricke Ling were immediatly carryed prisoners to Vllart in the Barrony of fforte in the said County of Catherlagh about seauen miles distant from the said guarrison at which place there were then present (as the <D> said Peter Moore tould the examinant) one Garrett Wale of [

<E> William Wale of Kilerige all of the said County of Catherlagh and allsoe Patricke Wale since deceased and seuerall others of the Nolans whose names hee the said Peter Moore could not then tell the examinant, The examinant further saith that the said Peter Moore tould the examinant that when the said Capten John Chambers and the said Peter Moore and the said Patricke Linge were brought <f> prisoner to Vllart aforesaid the said Vllicke Wale Garrett Wale, William Wale and the said Nolans did very much reioyce and seemed very glad that the said Chambers Moore and Linge were prisoners as aforesaid and desired the said Cornett Richard Reade to deliuer his said prisoners to them and that they would send them the said prisoners to Collonell Bagnall, because they had beene formerly vnder his comand, but (as the said Peter Moore tould the examinant) the <G> said Cornett Richard Reade then declared that hee had giuen that hee had giuen quarter to the said Chambers Morre and Ling and and that hee would haue noe harme done vnto them, and there vppon the said Cornett Reade left the said Peter Moore and the said Patricke Ling prisoners in charge with the said Garrett Wale Vllick Wale William Wale Patricke Wale and the seuerall Nolans aforesaid and permitted the said Captain John Chambers to goe vppon his parole to Catherlagh and then the said Cornett Reade departe d them The examinant further saith that

<L> said William Wale Vllick Wale and Garrett Wale and the said Nolans and others of the County aforesaid consulting of the death of the Patricke Ling requested them that they would spill not spill the said Patricke Lings blood after quarter giuen him for if they did it would bee revenged, notwithstanding the said Patricke Ling was killed as the said Captain Chambers tould the examinant, The examinant further saith that the said Captain John Chambers tould the examinant that one Curren now liueing at Ballalarsen aforesaid Can giue informacion concerning the said murther, And further saith not
