The Examinacion of Alexander Hay Late Servant to Sir John Burke knight taken before mee the maior of Dublin the xiiijth day of January 1641
<G> Who beinge Sworne & examined depoaseth & sayth that hee was before Christmas last an hyred Servant to his sayd master Sir John Burke neare Castle Carhene in the kinges Countie of kild ar e And that this Examinant depoaseth that the sayd Sir John Burke Intertayned in his house one Saterday a weeke before Christmas dyvers Rebells drinkinge all night & makinge merry theare, And that the Tennants of the sayd Sir John Burke are out in Action, And this Examinant desyring to leaue his service desyred the sayd Sir John Burke to discharge him & the sayd Sir John & his ladie graunted the same & gaue directions to twoe of there Cheeffe servants to Conduct this Examinant to the Towne of kilcocke att which towne the sayd twoe servants did Robb & take awaye from this Examinant a purse wherein was Contayned the some of Lix s. sterlinge, And this Examinant further <ff> depoaseth that att his Cominge away from his said master that hee his sayd Master Sir John & his lady did owe vnto him the some of fyue shillings & 6 d. ster & a suit off Clothes & The sayd lady Burk did promise this Examinant that hee should bee safly [ b ee ] Conducted to kilcock, & her owne servants weare the onely men that Robbed this Examinant as afforesayd, And this Examinant further depoaseth & sayth that the sayd Lady Burke sayd that all the Scotchmen weare traytors And further this Examinant sayth that hee having Conference with the sayd lady burke & Advysed her to liue in peace & feare gode you will doe well And the sayd lady Answered wee haue <J> Liued time longe slaves vnder the English, And it is tyme for vs to looke for a revenge, And further this Examinant sayth that the sayd Sir John Burk replyed & sayde that hee had men in Ireland that could doe as good service as lesley him selfe, And this Examinant Replyed that 500 of the Irish should bee but a breakfast vnto the sayd leasley if hee should come ouer And further this Examinant deposeth & sayth that one Captaine Brimigham saye that I had rather haue Sir Charles Coote heare then all this Castle & m of Sir John Burk & my mothers Castle att my owne bee syde And ffurther this Examaninant doeth not depose
