The Examinacion of Andrew White now prisoner in the Martialsie taken the 22th of ffebr. 1652 at Dublin
The sayd Andrew White aged 34 yeares or there abouts Examined sayth: That at the beginning of the Rebellion in the yeare 1641 he lived in Dublin with his father Garrett White who was a retainer to Sir James Ware, and being brought to some want, his father advised him to goe into the Country to gather vp some rents, but could receive none, and soe was driven to Live sometymes vpon one friend, and sometymes vpon another, and in ffebruary 1641 at length he lighted vpon Christopher Hollowood and Collonell Dowde and 5 or 6 foote souldiers in the hige way within 4 or 5 d miles of Castle Towne Malough where Mr John Ware Liued, and at this Examinants my first meeting with them he I asked Christopher Hollowood aforesaid whether he was goeing, he answered toward Castle Towne Malough, this Examinant and one Coll: Dowde then sayd they should be glad to goe with him to and see Mr Ware, whith home this Examinant e had Longe acquaintance, and soe all went togeather to Mr John Wares howse, where they wh e were all uery kindly Entertained by the said Mr Ware, and aboute halfe an houre after we had bin there, and as we were drinking in the hall of Mr W the said Hollowood tould this Examinant that he had a warrant to take vp horses, to which this Examinante replyed I hope you doe not intend to take vp any heere, the said Hollowood made answer, no, for that Mr

Ware and he were swore brothers; notwithstanding a while after, this deponent sayth, that he called Mr Ware a side, and wished him to write a few words to Mr Wiseley of the Dingha n who was father in law to the aforesayd Hollowed, to come thither for feare that the sayd Hollowood should Execute his warrant and take away his horses: and after a messenger was gon, with a letter written by this Examinat to Wiseley Christopher Hollowood with the ffoote souldiers, and Coll Dowde, went out into the yard, and Mr Ware went out after them, but this Examinante stayd in the howse, and a while after, one of Mr Hollowoods men called out Capten White, Capt White, come forth, but he would not, yet after a while hearing a great noise without I this Examinant went forth, and iust as this Examinante came forth he saw the smoke of a peece, which one of the Souldiers shott off, which killed Mr Ware, wherevpon this Examinante went presently to the souldier that shott, and tooke him by the Coller of the neck, and asked him what a divell madest thou to kill the gentleman, who answered that his peece went of against his will, and then this Examinant replyed that he should be hanged if there were noe more men a Liue; wherevpon This Examinante went into the howse (where he meet Mrs Ware weeping, and weept wit h her, for the losse of her hus band) to fetch his Cloak, sword, and pistoll and went away presently wi t h them with an intention to goe to Dorranstowne to shun the Company of the sayd Hollowood & the rest, but being a strainger in that Country and not haueing the Irish tongue tongue feareing least he should be knocked in the head by some of the Irish partie, This

Examinant returned back towards Castle Towne Maylough where he meete Hollowood and his Company, coming out of the yard with Mr Wares horses vnder them, and soe returned back againe with them: with an intention to goe to Dorrainstowne as aforesayd againe but vpon the way this Examinante, Hollowood, Collonell Dowde, and the rest that were in Company, meet Mr Wiseley of of the Dingham aforesayd, who was very angry with his son in Law Hollowood for takeing away Mr Wares horses, and would haue sent them back againe, but his, and this Examinants earnest entreatys could not prevaile with the sayd Hollowood to send them back, a and soe they all went to Mr Wisely’s howse and stayed there that night, and Hollowood telling his father in Law wisely that Mr Ware was killed, the at which the sayd Wisely was very much troubled and soe keept his son in Law Hollowood and this de Examinante, and all the rest prisoners for that night And further sayth not.
