The examinacion of Edward Nugent of Clowshamboe in the County of Kildare Gent aged thirty fowre yeares or thereabouts taken the xxjth of december 1653 before vs Collonell william Edwards and Thomas Richardson esquire Members of the high Court of Justice appointed for takeing examjnacions concerning murthers and massacres &c.
Who beeing duely sworne and examjned deposeth and saith That about two yeares of the last harvest Allhollantyde the examjnant was <A> tould by some of the Inhabitants of the Calloe that Marcus Cruise now prisoner in Dublin and three of his brethren [

prisoner to the fforte of Ballileige, but hee standing vppon his guard with a short pike in <B> his hand and refuseing to goe along with the said Marcus Cruise and or his brethren, the younger brother of the said Marcus Cruise (whose Christen name the examjnant knoweth not) shott at the said Hugh mc Brian ffarrall with a pistoll then in his hand of which shott the said Hugh mc Brian ffarrall (as the examjnant was tould) died within a day or two after, And further saith not,
