The Examination of David Powell of Clonmell in the Co: of Tiperary yeoman taken August 31. 1652.
This Examinant sworne saith That he is aged 54 hee about sixty foure yeares, or thereabouts that at the begining of the rebellion he lived at Knockgraffyn in the said County <A> where he was plundered by the rebells, that [

the said County by one Butler, the brother of Walter Butler of Cloughbridie, because he had formerly shot from a castle the said Butlers brother from a the Castle of Rochestowne which he defended & which was besiged by the rebells. And He further saith, that the person so killed was then a <C> soldier vnder the Lo: of Inchiquin, & was then a prisoner to the Irish, & on his paroll for exchanging one of the Irish prisoners. And farther saith, that he heard that about the time of the delivering of the Castle at Goling bridge in the said County there were many women & children buried alive; which was commonly reported; and that he this Examinant was shewed the place or pitt, where the said persons were so buried, by J ohn & particular ly that he was shewed it by John Ballard who then lived at Grenan castle & lived formerly at Goling whence he fled when Golin the Rebells came thither. And farther saith not.
