    The Examinatione of Rory ô Naughten (concerning the murder of Donogh ô ffihily layd to his charge) taken before the Commissioners of <A> Revenue at Athlone March 21th 1652
    This Examinate sayth that about three yeares, before the last Alhollintyde this Examinate was at the great Berries neere Athlone (where he lived with his father & mother,) in his fathers house, unto which place William Kelly of Lisnebardoge, & fferrall Kigan came about six or seaven a clocke at Night & spoke unto this Examinate where they Tarryed till after supper & when they had supped, they spoke to this Examinate to goe along with them to apprehend donogh ffihily who Answered that hee would not goe abroade this tyme of night yet they prevayled with him to goe alleadging that <B> they had ane order, from one Bryan Kelly a fryar, to apprehend the sayd ffihily, & bring him before William Moore of Clonbigny Marshall of the County Roscommon, for 18 sheepe & one in Calfe cow that hee had taken from the sayd William Kellyes Mother & sister, And sayth that thereupon hee was induced to goe with them to the sayd ffihilyes house which was about lesse then a quarter of a mile distant from their owne in ane Island & being come there, the about eight or nine a clocke, they fownd the sayd fighily in bed upon whom they seized & the sayd Kigan telling him that hee was his prisoner, he answered that though hee was his prisoner then

    His prisoner then, hee might bee his, another tyme and the sayd Kigan taking uppe fighilyes skeane that Lay under his beds head, made him Rise upe & goe into another house that was hard by, where they sat uppe all night, & In on the next morning about eight of the clocke in the morning they went away & tooke the sayd fighly with them, towards the [ ] aforesayd Marshalls, & within a litle distance, of the house (after they came out of the cot [ ] in which they came out of the Island where the sayd ffighily lived) the sayd Kigan & Kelly as hee thinkes fell to angry <C> wordes, where upon the with the sayd ffyhily where upon, the sayd Kygan being behynd him drew out his skeane & stabbed the sayd ffighily in the syde soe that hee was lyke to falling downe, & the sayd Kelly being before him turned about & drew out his sword where with hee gave him a stroake, on the head & another on his necke, in soe much that hee fell downe dead in the place; & [ ] In the meane this examinate sayth that hee & the sonne of the party slaine were walking togither taking tobacco a convenient distance before them, & heareing the noyse turned backe, & saw & heard what hee confesseth And

    And the sayd Kigan & Kelly (leaving him dead with his <D> throate cut) went & tooke away three or fowre Garrons, & one cow which they intended to have Kept to themselves but Elianor Kelly [ ] from the tooke some of them with from them for rent due unto her from the sayd ffighily that was slaine for the sheepe that were taken from her, [ ] & further sayth not, but that every one was glad that hee was Killed.
