The Examinacion of Michaell Boyer of Athleage in the County of Roscomon concerneing the Murther of Thomas mc Egan in the first yeare of the Rebellion Taken before vs Leiutenant Collonell Alexander Brafeild and Henry Wadington Esquire by vertue of a Commission from the honorable the High Court of Justice sitting att Dublin Dated the 10th of January last pursuant to an Order of the Right honorable the Commissioners of the Como nwealth of England for the affaires of Ireland Dated the 23th day of September 1653
The said Examinate aged Threescore yeares or thereabouts being duely sworne and Examined saith That he liued before the Rebellion at a place called Carristillane betwixt Castle=Coote and Roscomon, and when the Rebellion broake out he remoued himselfe, for security to Castle Coote, which was then Garrisoned by the English, And about a quarter of a yeare after a Randezvouze being appointed by the Earle of Clanrickard, the Lord Ranelagh Sir Charles Coote and seuerall other Officers for the coniunction of their fforces, he this Examinate went with Sir Charles Coote to the fforde of Garroure (which is vppon the Riuer Sucke, betwixt the Countyes of Roscomon and Gallway) at which place the meeting was appointed, And being come thither he mett (amongst others of his Acquaintance) with the abouenamed Thomas mc Egan who ridde then in the Lord Ranelaghs Troope, but about an houre after his comeing to the Randezvouze he heard that the said Thomas mc Egan was murthered, and imediately after sawe his Corps brought into the ffeild, wherein they were at Randezvouze. And this examinate (being demaunded how the said Egan was murthered, and who it was that Murthered him) saith That it was the Common Report and talke of euery one whome he spoke with at the said Randezvouze, that the said Egan rideing about a Muskett Shott from the place where the said Randezvouze <A> was, into a wood adioyneing therevnto was there mett by Conn Kelly

<B> Kelly of Clonniglin in the said County of Roscomon (who was then in Rebellion and had before that time robbed many of the English Protestants who liued in Athleage and Elsewhere in the said County of Roscomon), and that the said Thomas mc Egan was then and there murthered by the said Conn Kelly, and he verily beleiueth the same to be true, because the said Conn was one of the first that rise vp in Armes in the Province of Connaght, and was the onely man that was then in Armes in the Barrony of Athlone, All the rest of the Gentry of the said Barrony being at the said Randezvouz (haueing a Protection or safe= <C> Conduct from the Lord Ranelagh for their repaire thither) and in reguard the land whereon the Randezvouze was, did belong to the said Conn Kelly, and was much frequented by him and further the Examinate cannot depose.
