<Gallway May the 27th 1653> The Examination of Collonel Vllick Burk taken before Robertt Clark Esquire one of the Justices of peace for the precinct of Gallway.
Saith he knew John boy ô skingin, and that being saith he was hanged in Summer last; and saith he was hanged by Orders from the a Councell of warrr, which was <A> Captaine William Burk, Captaine Burk sonn to Vllick mc Doraghan and the rest he remembreth not at present, being Examined whether himselfe was in the Councell of warr, saith he was not of the Councell, but was present as an Euidence against the said John boy ô Skingin; And being Examined furth{er} saith that there was another man hanged whose name he remembreth not onely saith he was an Irish man and was immediatly hanged after his takeing being Examined by whose Order saith he doth not Knowe whether it was himselfe that gaue Order for his hanging or not; but was by, and cont enanced the same being Examined the cause of his Execution saith; that (as he remembreth) it was, because he was taken in action against the party wherof he was, & comeing along with the English party, but doth not remember [ ] that he had any armes And further saith that John boy ô Skingin was Kept three or foure dayes after he was taken; accompanying with the English party but remembreth not whet{her} he had any Armes; And being Examined the cause wherfore he was hanged, { } the Counsell of warr can tell that; but saith the Euidence he gaue against {him} was, a Letter that was found with him from Captaine Knibb declareing which decl{ared} him {to} be a spy; by reason the said Letter desired him to send him intelligence of {the} motions of the Irish on the Mountaine; and that he was taken with the said English in the routes; being further Examined saith (the day before) the Irish party wherof this Examinant was, tooke a prey from the parish of Kilbegnett And being Examined why he tooke an Oath that he would hang the said John when he was taken; saith he doth not remember he tooke any Oath but saith {he} remembreth he said that he should be hanged; because he conceiued him was Guilty and saith that he was Comaunder in cheife of the party when he was taken And further saith not the said John Boy with the other was taken taken & further saith not
