    <Gallway 26o 1653> The Examination of Bryan oge Mc Cahelboy Maron; taken before Robertt Clark Esquire one of the Justices of peace for the precinct of Gallway

    <A> saith he Knew Collonel Edmund fflaherty whoe now stands comitted in this towne of Gallway; and that in that in the begining of the warr; dureing or after the seidge of the fort of Gallway, the said Edmund went to the Island of Aro{n} to a plac{e} caled Ara more; and f with a foote company vnder his Comaund {to} the number of fourescore men or there aboutes; and how long he continued this Examinant remembreth not, but vppon his departure from {the} said Island vppon a sunday Euenings he was inquireing for this Ex{ami}nant; and sent some of his men to this Examinants howse; he being no{t} then in the said howse and brought out of his said howse Vppon noti{ce} wherof giuen to the [ ] said Collonell; he comaunded about hal{f} an howre after six of his men to this Examinants howse againe, n{ow?} found him within the howse; and carried him by force out of his said howse; with most part of the tooles belonging to his trades; w{ } this Examinant was brought before the said Collonel fflaherty, he said vnto him; It will not availe you much to force such a poore man as I am, whoe haue a charge of a wife, and poore children; to whome the Collonel replyed; you must goe along with me wheresoeuer I goe, vppon which this Examinant was pushed and forced downe [ ] into the boate, by some of the said Colonels men; and whether the said Collonel was goeing or what his Intention was this Examinant remembreth not; but that same night the said Collonel with his men went a shore within a Quarter of a mile neere a place caled the Castle <B> of Trumray, where one Mr Wade liued and immediatly after theire Landing the said Collonel Comaundeding part of his men towards the said Castle; and bee this Examinant being in a howse beside them; where the said Collonel Kept his Guard heard some shuteing abroad; whereupp{on} there was some of the said Collonels men wounded the cause of { }

    was that those men whoe were wounded came by degrees after haueing receiued theire wounds to the Court of Guard; wheruppon this Examinant was <C> Comaunded out with a hand hammer; to make a breach vppon the said Castle; which iourny he was very loath to vndertake; and replyed; that he did not Expect to turne againe salfe; the Collonel answeared; that he must goe; and when this Examinant went towards the said Castle he did as he conceiued fix vppon a salfe place; where he betooke himselfe, nigh the corner bottome of the Castle; imagining there to haue some shelter from the shuteing and stones, whoe were throwen downe, where he did work with his hammer aboute halfe and howre; and was afterwards wounded in the hand; and lost the vse therof for three months; and was likewise wounded in his the thye; whereuppon he was conveyed away by some of the said Company; And being demaunded saith he did not see Mr Wade his wife children or family or any that was in the said Castle Killed; but that he heard that he and his wife & <D> his sonn were Killed; and being demaunded whether he had any part of the plunder when with it was deuided at strawe Island; saith he receiued noe part therof, and being demaunded saith he Knewe John Browne; and that he went along with Colonel flaherty to Trumroe, but whither he did act any thing this Examinant Knoweth not
