The examinacion of John Henderson of Lurgan in Com Ardmagh aged sixty eight yeares or thereabouts taken at Lisnegaruy 2 May 1653
Who saith that a little before May after the Rebellion he being in his owne house at Ardmagh he did see mr John Griffen Curate in Ardmagh John Kickly Simon Michelson John mortram Will: Carmegg & others whose names he remembers not to about the number of twenty being all <A> Inhabitants in Ardmagh caried away from thence by one Neale <Neale o Mallan Patt: o Murphy John Mc Glamery Edm: Mc Crawly Captain> O Mallan Patt: o Murphy John Mc Glamery & others vnder the comand of Edm: mc Crawly who was Captaine ouer that party & also went out along with them [

<C> skaine in his hand vntill he found him out soe that there was putt in then about the number of fourty & the next morning after this Examinant was putt into the Gaole with the rest as aforesaid Lookeing out of a window thereof on the back of the said Gaole he saw one James Rowen an Inhabitant in Newry brought thither by one Wal= <Walter Bedly Hugh Moder mc Cadden> ter Bedly Hugh Moder mc Codden & the said Neale O Mallan & others he knowes not & there murdered by them
And presently afterward all the said persons Inhabitants in Ardmagh putt into the Gaole as aforesaid were <D> brought out from thence by the said Neale O Mallan & <Patt: o Dogherty Donell o Neale> Patt: O Dogherty & seuerall others of the Irish to about the number of two hundred of whome he cannot remember any by name except one Donell o Neale a Soldier then amongst them And the said persons soe brought out of the Gaole as aforesaid were all to be caried to Charlemount except such as ransomed themselues free for mony whereof this examinant was one who gaue them fifteen pounds for his ransome & also about foure or fiue more which ransomed them selues & the residue viz the said Tho: Betten this examinants sonne in Law Tho: Whittaker Tho: Cliuer William Golphin William Randell Dauid Black mr John Starky & his two daughters whereof the one was named Elizabeth & the other he knew not her name mr Barclay & his Children Chrispe Simons Robert Harbrick William Wellart John Allett Siluester Ramsey William Bell & others whose names he remembers not To the number o f about six & thirty were caried from thence to Toll watter whither to which place this examinant went with them & then left them where

they were afterwards killed as one William Sim Sadler now an Inhabitant in Belfast & many others related to him that they were all slaine by the said party who caried them from Ardmagh & that the said Sims was caried to Charlemount being a Sadler to work for Sir Phill: where he was kept a yeare & a halfe & also this examinant further saith that the said William Sim had a brother named James Sim who was taken away with the rest of the Inhabitants & escaped but after what manner this examinant knowes not who liues now within 3 miles of Belfast neer Carmony Church And further saith not but doth belieue that Elizabeth Ramsey & her daughter Ellin being liueing in Ardmagh at the begining of the Rebellion can discouer somewhat more who liues beyond Magherelin Ect
