The examinacion of Richard Shortall of [
<To the 1st Interr> The examinant deposeth and saith that he well knew the said Patricke ffrench being frequently at his howse & in his Company, And saith that the said Patricke did liue in the towne of Wexford in the Irish quarters the first yeare and the whole time of the rebellyon, & after the storming of the said towne till the said Patricke dyed <n> & that the said Patricke did not remooue into the english quarters as the deponent Conceiues he might haue done with Sir Walsingham Cooke knight & other protestants repairing to Wexford from their habitacons in the Countrey & thence departing into the english quarters his cause of knowledge appeares
<To the 2d interr> Hee cannot depose
<To the 3d inter> Hee saith that he beleiues the said Patricke did beare & contribute to the mayntenance of the Irish <o> forces leuyed against the english as this deponent & others of the County generally did
<To the 4th & 5th inter> Hee cannot deposeth that the said Patricke to the deponents personall knowledge was one of the prime & forwardest men in the towne of Wexford in all the transactions therein the said Patricke being an Alderman thereof <p> And further saith that the deponent hath seen the said Patr at the generall assemblyes of the Irish at Kilkenny in the first yeare of the warrre As he remembers
<To the 6th Interr> Hee deposeth that he hath seen the said Patricke to act <q> at Kilkenny aforesaid As a burges of the assembly in behalfe of the towne of Wexford & soe the said Patricke had a vote in electing men at for the Supreame Councel{
<To the 7th interr> The examinant saith that he beleiues the said Patricke beinge <r> of that eminent condicion did & could not auoyd the taking of the oath of associacion

<To the 8: & 9th> Hee Cannot depose other then what he hath deposed in thes preceeding partes of his deposicion
<To the 10th Inter> The examinant saith that the said Patricke ffrench had a son by name Nicholas ffrench, which said Nicholas went about six yeares since was called Captaine ffrench & as the deponent heard from the most actiue able & best men in Wexford the said Nicholas was actiue at sea for the Irish & that afterwardes the said Nicholas was in the <s> forte of Duncannon, when the same was defended by the Irish against the english the deponents cause of knowledge is for that the deponent was at Duncannon when the same was surrendered to Collonell Cooke & did see the said Nicholas Come out of the said fforte & that the said Nicholas did goe to the Island of Silly with a vessell which he had obtained vpon the Articles of Surrender
<To the 11: 12 & 13th > Hee cannot depose and further saith not
