Examinacions taken by Samuell Price the 19th day of Aprill 1653 by vertue of the anexed Order of the honorable the Comissioners of adminstracion of Justice for the Precinct of Athlone
<A> Seely Lynch late the Wife of Hugh o Higgen of Clonburren ffarmer beinge duly sworne and examined deposeth that last night was fortnight one Lawrence Pillen (a Rebell in Accion With Captain Hugh Kelly) came to her poore howse att Clonburren aforesaid about Nyne of the clock att night, (att what tyme this deponent and her said husband were goeinge to their rest) & Knocked att the dore to come in, sayinge he was Lawrence Pillen vpon which this deponents said husband answered that it was death to lett him in, and therefore wold not open the dore to him. Wherevpon the said Lawrence opened the dore by force and came in and tooke what victualls & other things he thought good and afterwards this deponent said husband intendinge to gett forth and rayse the Cry, the said Pillen fell vpon him and with his sword gave him a cutt in the head whereof he presently fell and within ffower dayes after dyed. And beinge demaunded if there were anie more rebells in the companie she sayeth she sawe none and if there were anie she beleevs they were imployed to watch least the Towne shold rise vpon him. And shee further deposeth that she sawe all this with her eyes and was in a terrible feare to have been killed her self, but though she for that tyme escaped, she Knowes that the villaine murtheringe her said Husband wilbe the cause (if god be not exceeding mercifull to her) of the distruccion of herself & her five small children.
