<symbol> The examinacion of William Wetherall of Castlyons yeoman taken before mee this 4th of December 1652 beinge duly sworne & examined deposeth and sayth that on or about the nynteenth of January 1641 this deponent Mr John ô Daly and Walter Penward beinge att the <A> Castle of Creige were appoynted to fetch some hay from Carrige ô Heey for some provision for a party of horse that was to Come to the sayd Castle, but the enemy then beinge Captain John Condon Henry O Grady and dauid mcMagh Condon there Companies of foote and horse lay in Ambush a litle aboue the house some of them in the orchard and the rest in the Church of Lane, yett this deponent with thother twoe gott into the house of Carrigonely and there defended themselues about one howre & vpwards, & then seeinge that the enemy were goinge to fyreing the dore they desyred quarter which then the sayde Condon and O Grady did giue them quarter for theire liues and Clothes and what was aboute them, whereupon this deponent and thother twoe were Carryed with the enemy to Cloghleigh &, then <B> this deponent did see one david mcMage Condon amongest the Troops and that he was a Liuetenant and many others whome he doth not well know, and that they were kept in prison vntill the 24th of March next after theire takeinge & then this deponent, John dayly Walter Penward and one John Barrett were taken out of pryson and Carryed to the Gallowes which they had made of purpose to hange the English on by the Comaund of John Condon, and when they were brought to the gallowes there stood there John Condon Henry O Grady James <C> Barry david McMage Condon and Richard Condon of Ballydergan and many others whome he knew not save onely one Jeromy Ross of Clekeile then was on horsebacke vpon a blacke horse as one of the gard and light of his horse and Came to the prysoners and then sayde to Walter Penward you remember yow that yow Caused my Lord of Barrymores horse to take me prysoner att Rathcormacke by which meanes I had <D> suffered if ffather Barry & others had not procured my life and therefore now yow haue your desert, then he Came to John dayly and sayde to him yow stript my

my Vnckle Hyde whereby he was forced to Come into protecion and to give and therefore noe yow haue your desert, and then immediately the said John Dayly Walter Penward and John Barret were all exequeted in this deponents presence, and then he this deponent went three runges vpp the ladder but he was reprived, and Carryed backe againe to pryson were he remayned vntill the Castle of Clonleigh was taken into the possession of the English his Cause of knowledge appeareth for that he was present and did see and here what he hath deposed to be true. And further sayth not./
